Fire Board Time!

I did this Fire Board when we lived in Ohio, for my older sister who still lives there in good old Cincinnati. It is in our 1833 home in Lynchburg, Ohio for the picture in this view.

Summer time is when fire boards were properly put in front of fireplaces so as to keep out birds and other pests now that there would no longer be a need to build a fire.

  1. What a beautiful piece! How lucky your sister is to have such a talented artist in the family to make lovely pieces for her home. I also learned a bit of history. Thank you for sharing!

  7. Zwee, this is beautiful! I love your interpretation and the colors you chose. Did you stencil around your fireplace in your former home? And I love the sils on the mantel too! :) Thanks for sharing.

  8. Suzanne, Behind the fire board is the actual fireplace surround that was carved that way. Thank you so much for the sweet comment regarding the board and the silhouettes are of me when I was around four years old.

I made a stencil of the design in case I would ever wish to make another.

  9. I enjoyed seeing your fireboard, Christine. Back in the 80's I used to make them for Ethan Allen Furniture stores. I made one for my parents as an anniversary gift, they loved it, even though when I told them I would make them one, they had no idea what it was. You did a nice job. I'm going to look for the Jean Lipman boo,, it's one I don't have.

  10. Christine, I used to live in Molalla, Oregon many years ago (we live in Southern Michigan now), so I decided I would like some pictures of the Willamette Valley. While searching the internet, I found your blog of October 21, 2008 and what beautiful pictures. Just what I was looking for.

By the way, we had great friends named LeFever in Molalla. Does your husband have any relatives in Molalla?

Also BTW, as my wife says, "If Oregon had been closer to family in Michigan, we would have stayed." Oregon is the best place we have lived.
