Theorem Heart Pincushion

I made this theorem heart pincushion many years ago. I have made others of this design and sold them, but I keep this one just for me. I happened upon this picture as I was sifting through my stash on iPhoto, and thought it would be nice to share.

For those of you who do not know what a theorem is, permit me to say it is oil painted designs onto velvet through stencils. They were very popular among the gentry of the early 1800's in England and America.

To learn more about this art form, please read the wonderful article written by my dear husband for Early American Life magazine.  Click on Theorem Painting.
